Youth Art Month 2010 Report
This year, we participated in the flag contest with the national theme of “Art Shapes the World”. Cynthia Franco, art student at San Miguel High School in Tucson created the winning design. The flag was sewn by Camille Mardis – art teacher and sent to the Council for Art Education, Inc., who sponsors Youth Art Month. They organized the flag celebration, “School Flags Flying High” at the Library of Congress, Members Room of the Thomas Jefferson Building in Washington, D. C. with all the state YAM flags. After the exhibit in Washington, the flag was displayed at the National Art Education Association Convention in the YAM Museum.
We attended Arts Congress Day sponsored by Arizona Citizens for the Arts on February 1st at the Arizona State Capital. They provided sack lunches for the legislators, and art students from Litchfield Park (Debi Engbring – art teacher) provided incredible sculptures for each legislator.
Students From J.O.Combs Unified School District and Queen Creek School District participated in the Southeast Valley YAM show at Rhino Caffe in Queen Creek.
A fantastic collection of student artwork was displayed at Crizmac in Tucson, Az throughout the month of March and was undoubtedly appreciated by all who participated. Click See More for pictures!
