Nov 1-3, 2012

This year we are heading south to Tucson and our conference site is Hotel Tucson City Center- an InnSuites boutique, 475 N. Granada, Tucson, AZ 85701. Our conference is a wonderful opportunity for professional development as well as an occasion to network with fellow art educators. New for this year will be a “Salon” where we will display examples of art created on-site during the conference from each hands-on workshop.  We will have our Artist’s Market, for selling your creative work and of course, our very popular Professional Development Scholarship Raffles. We are always on the look out for art education materials and supplies for our raffle baskets. If you would like to donate materials, please contact us.

Our opening night will have a Transformation Procession with Mojigangas (giant parade puppets) that we will create during summer workshops and on Thursday afternoon.

For those of you who wish to stay on until Sunday, there are several Tucson public events and an All Souls Procession on the evening of Nov. 4th.

How Did You Celebrate YAM?

Every March across the nation, art teachers step up their efforts to celebrate the art that their students create. How did you celebrate Youth Art Month? We’d like to know.

The Arizona Art Education Association participates in the National Art Education Association Youth Art Month Program. A flag is designed and created and hung with others at the National Convention. Our 2012 winner is a 7th grade student at Combs Middle School in San Tan valley her flag is shown below. Next year consider joining in the design for the 2013 flag.

We also collect the documentation for all of the Youth Art Month events from across the state and combine it into a YAM Scrapbook. Though Youth Art Month is officially in March, the events can be any time during the year. Did you have a student art exhibit? Was it in your school or out in the community? Who was invited? Can you take just a minute to email me about it? jeremille@cox.net If you have any pictures please send them as well. If you would like to create your own page let me know that too.

I look forward to hearing from you – it just takes a minute to share what you’ve done – consider it another way you are advocating for the arts!
